This 9-week course is for writers who want to find their voice in English as an additional or second language. Each 2-hour session will feature a blend of reading and discussing fundamentals of fiction, with workshopping students’ texts and reflecting about one’s own creative process.
By the end of this course, writers will have:
- Experimented with a range of their narrative and stylistic techniques in fiction
- Developed metaliterary language and used it appropriately when commenting their own texts (reflective writing) or their peers’ (feedback)
- Felt more empowered and confident writing in English as a second language
- Familiarised with the concepts of identity and otherness of the authorial voice.
Who is it for:
Aimed at writers of all abilities with an interest in writing in English. Minimum level of language required: intermediate to proficient (B2-C1). This course is also recommended to English teachers interested in integrating creative writing activities in their lessons.
Teaching mode: Weekly online lessons, plus exchange of written feedback

Docente: Elena Traina
Elena Traina is a writer, translator, and researcher in Creative Writing Studies. She is a professor of creative writing at Escuela de Escritores (Spain) and of speculative fiction and creative writing in English as a second language at Scuola Holden (Italy). As a researcher, she is interested in creative writing in English as a second language and in conventional and unconventional approaches to teaching creative writing. Her articles on creative writing pedagogy appeared in the Journal of Creative Writing Studies and NAWE’s magazine Writing in Education. She is now working towards a thesis in Creative Writing Studies at Falmouth University, UK. She is a member of the European Association of Creative Writing Programmes (EACWP) and NAWE (National Association of Writers in Education in the UK).
